DR. LYNNE A. GUITAR
Fulbright Fellow

M.A and Ph.D. in History & Anthropology,
Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN
B.A.'s in History & Anthropology,
Michigan State University

Lynne Guitar came to the Dominican Republic in mid-1997 (her third visit) with a Fulbright Fellowship to complete the research and writing of her doctoral dissertation on "Cultural Genesis" and has stayed on to share her love of Dominican people, history, and culture with others.

Lynne's focal areas are the Taínos (the island's indigenous people, a people who, her work proves, never became extinct), Africans at the beginning of their diaspora to the New World, and Spaniards in the early colonial era.  Special study interests include agriculture and domestic foodways, child raising, home medicine and healing, domestic arts and artisanry, popular religion, music and dance--interests that have their origins in the pre-colonial and colonial eras and that extend their influences into the new millennium

Since 1997, she has also become a specialist on tourism to the Dominican Republic and is currently writing a series of historical-fiction novels about the island's pre-colonial and early-colonial Taínos, Africans, Spaniards, and criollos.
